Will Science and Innovation be Enough to Feed the World?

By the time you read this sentence, ten more people have been added, added to our growing world population1. We are a mere 29 harvests away from producing more food than in the last 10,000 years if we are to meet the most basic human function – eating – for the expected world population of 10 billion.

Farmers everywhere face a huge task. It falls on them to put food on our plates. And they are being called on to do this from shrinking farmable land, respecting and improving the environment, using fewer inputs, respecting water quality and quantity, improving soil health and working to mitigate climate change. And they are expected to do this sustainably.
